Who We Are: Alpha Chi Sigma brothers are passionate about the chemical sciences, but we are of all majors, including: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, and more. On-Campus Involvement: As a group we are extremely involved within the College of Math and Science at Cal Poly: Many of our members are undergraduate researchers, study session or workshop leaders, and tutors. As a fraternity, we host free weekly tutoring for students in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry 3 times a week. We host an annual BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin) event every fall, Pie-A-Professor in the Spring, and we put together the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department Banquet at the end of every year. This year we added our "Research 101" event, in which we showcased chemistry department researchers, and connected students with professors that they may be interested in doing research with. Community Outreach: Throughout the quarter we travel to local elementary schools and participate in "Science Nights". Volunteers from the fraternity, along with Cal Poly chemistry faculty, educate and interest students in science through fun and memorable hands-on demonstrations. We also assist Boy Scouts in obtaining their chemistry merit badge. We are always looking for new ways to get involved with our community! "Alpha Chi Sigma is a Professional Fraternity unlike any other, focusing in on the Chemical Sciences. Bringing together both men and women, AXΣ is an organization with chapters across the nation that attracts those who dare to pursue a career in a chemistry related field. Beginning in 1982, the Gamma Zeta chapter of the Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity has called California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo home and since, has become a well-established and traditional chapter. Our chapter members are determined, motivated, and are young ambassadors who all share a strong passion for Chemistry. We work closely with and aid the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, by providing free Chemistry tutoring services and planning the annual Department Banquet. We outreach to the surrounding scientific community by helping boy scouts gain their science merit badge and provide our helping hands to local High Schools by assisting them with Chemistry labs and experiments. We are a strong, well-respected, and united community of individuals who invite others to share our bonds in brotherhood with current and past members. We offer membership to all Cal Poly students who share a passion in the chemical sciences, who further our objects, and who are prepared to become an integrated component of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department and a family of unending brotherhood." |
